We love open data here at Tradebox Media, and having roots in the North of England, we were bristling with ideas when we saw an opportunity to submit a project to Data Movement, powered by the Digital Catapult Centre North East & Tees Valley and Tyne & Wear Urban Traffic Management Control (UTMC).
A competition which was looking for projects that would utilise the open data published by UTMC in some way to improve the quality of life for people in Newcastle and Tyne. We put forward Quikr – The Smart Journey Planner.
Enter the details of your most frequent routes into Quikr and the app will let you know of any issues on the route as well as providing alternative, sustainable options.
Quikr uses real-time journey data and traffic information to let you know if there are delays, accidents or roadworks as well as letting you know the projected journey time. Integration with Google Journey APIs will let you know the quickest route using public transport or on foot.
Quikr’s dashboard will let you set how often and when you want to see the notifications, making it useful without being intrusive.
If you’d like to see Quikr turned from an idea into a product you can download and use, you can vote for the smart journey planner here.
